Let me tell you a bit about the origins that birthed Mycophoria – and who I am today.
At one point, I was an IV heroin user and blackout drinker, with extreme anxiety and depression throughout my teen and early 20’s. Despite having an affinity for all things nature as a child, during adolescence I gained a pervasive feeling of loneliness, experienced developmental trauma & severe bullying, which ultimately led to disconnection, nihilism, suicidal ideation, and anxiety (both social and general) that severely affected me in ways that I could not seem to understand. I had glimpsed peace through Zen meditation, prayed a lot to a “higher power” during my first year of 12-step based sobriety, but remained feeling empty and disconnected in many ways which lead to a cycle of negative habits and dissociation from the present moment.
It wasn’t until my first “heroic dose” and subsequent microdosing of psilocybin mushrooms, coupled with active integration and deep inner work, that I experienced an embodied feeling of Universal Love; met my “higher self” or soul; and began the path to permanently shed numerous unwanted mental and physical habits through mindful awareness. Through the wisdom and teachings of the plants and fungi, and the willingness to cultivate self-compassion and continually walk towards growth and inner awareness, I have found true recovery and inner strength as a mother, healer, and queer woman. I would not be who I am today without the profound gifts of our psychedelic allies. I am a firm believer in the wisdom and healing power of mushrooms and entheogenic plant medicine! When we approach these medicines with respect, patience, and gratitude, we are met with healing and new possibilities we may have never believed were available to us. Having experienced, trained, and embodied support during these processes allows for insights to be cemented into life changes, and for connection to our innermost selves to flourish. We cannot heal and grow alone!
I have also lost multiple people to overdoses and suicide, on top of seeing the pain of society daily at work. We are in desperate need of deep healing on a massive scale, as the country is experiencing record numbers of “deaths of despair.” Psilocybin and other natural entheogens, which have been used by humans for thousands of years for spiritual and healing purposes prior to colonization and repressive drug policy, are extremely promising tools to help those suffering connect to their inherent goodness, and heal wounds created by pain, trauma, and disconnection. By healing society and improving how we connect with each other, we can heal the Earth and create a promising future for the generations who are currently on track to inherit a wasteland. Join me in this movement to embody the wisdom of nature!
